Frequently Asked Questions

What is massage therapy?

Massage therapy is the manipulation of soft tissues and joints by kneading, compressing, stripping and trigger pointing (among many other techniques). The soft tissues of the body include tendons, ligaments, muscles and connective tissues.

Why would I benefit from a massage?

Massage helps to increase circulation to deprived structures in the body, helps to improve flexibility of muscles and joints, and helps to improve imbalances in posture.

Additionally, massage can help you to sleep better, move better, and just feel better.

If you've suffered from any injuries, massage helps to calm the compensating structures and allow for healing.

If you sit at a desk all day, massage helps to calm the strain put on the posterior chain (shoulders and neck) that constantly give you grief.

Massage helps to work out the trigger points that can be the result of poor posture or excessive exercise, and cause you tension headaches.

How do I book a mobile massage vs an on-site massage?

When you select your appointment type, you will also select a calendar. One will say mobile, one will say Alyssa McConnell RMT home! Pick whichever one you’d like!

What should I expect?

Before you come to your first massage, please make sure to fill out the form online (instructions are in your reminder email)

When you arrive, we will go over your form and talk about any questions or concerns you have about your appointment.

When that is finished, the therapist will share the treatment plan and instruct you on how to get on the treatment table and to what level you should undress. Then the therapist will come back and treatment will begin.

Please remember that your massage should never be painful. If something doesn't feel quite right, please communicate! Everyone is different which means every massage should also be different.

Do I need to have my own table for a mobile massage?

Nope! I bring everything except for any pillows or blankets you may need! Sheets, table warmer, cups, table, lotion etc. is supplied by me!

How far will you travel for mobile massage?

I will travel within a 30 minute radius from my home. If you’re not sure if your home falls in that zone, just ask!

What should I bring?

Please bring your insurance information if you have any.

As well, you may choose to wear comfy clothes for your treatment. This is not standard and they may get in the way of the treatment area, but your comfort is number one priority.

What is cupping?

Cupping is a technique that uses a suction cup on the skin to stretch the fascia and bring stagnant blood to the surface to encourage new blood flow and healing in the area. This cup can be glass (fire cupping), plastic or silicone. I use the plastic and silicone cups. I love to use the cups for moving cupping, which has all the same benefits without the marks!

Does cupping hurt?

Sometimes people say they feel some pinching and pulling, but you should never be in any pain. If the cup is too tight, just say something and we can loosen it!

Do you offer direct billing?

Yes!

I am able to direct bill most major insurance companies including Alberta Blue Cross and Sunlife!

Please be prepared to pay the full appointment balance in case of technical difficulties!

Are you accepting new clients?

Yes!

However, due to the sensitive nature of in home and mobile massages, I am currently only accepting referrals.

What if I can't make it to my appointment?

Please give the courtesy of 24 hours notice if you can't make it to your appointment. Please either cancel online, or text to cancel.

(You may also call, but I’m not as quick to answer calls or check voicemails when I am working)

If you cannot give 24 hours notice you may be charged a $50 late cancellation fee. This fee is also applied if you fail to show up without any notice.
